Let’s make a hypothetical: You can apply for Permanent Residence in February 2022.

You have a solid amount of money saved. On November 1st 2021 you leave your job and apply for a six month ARC extension.

Can you still apply for a Taiwan Permanent Residence? Or is employment a necessary component?

Employment is not a necessary component.

It’s income or asset based for part of a tax year. Not employment based. It’s the same rule for citizenship and I used the asset based for that. Of course you can always go to the NIA and ask. They are very helpful.

The income part I’ve already satisfied for 2021. I fell short by about 30-35k TWD in 2020.

Covid made my first company in 2020 go bankrupt. Then I got fired by a company that had no clue what they were doing.

Immigration office have confirmed me that you can’t apply for the aprc while being on a 6 months extension.

Calling them is the best thing you can do.
