Taiwan Expat News Notifications

Weather Forecast Services

The weather forecasting services cover the main cities of northern Taiwan. The weather forecast data is accurately reported in real time, and sourced from the Open Weather Map Organisation. They are located in the Expat Services menu.

The weather forecast data accurately reports up to 8 days into the future, so you can plan ahead within each city. You are able to get an insight of the temperature, humidity, air pressure, precipitation, wind and cloud conditions. All these measures are available in charts and weather maps.

Warnings & Alerts

The warning and alert services cover three main sections, typhoon and storm warnings, earthquake and tsunamis warnings, and droughts, floods, contaminations and disruptions. The warning & alert services are located within the Expat Services menu.

These services display all the latest alerts & advisories that cover across the northern Taiwan area. The warning services specifically monitor the areas of: Keelung City, Taipei, New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Hsinchu City, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County.

Typhoon & Storm Warnings

The typhoon and storm warning service is a severe weather alert system that accurately reports on the meteorological data in real time. It is a government-distributed alert system based on the advisories issued by the Central Weather bureau.

Earthquake & Tsunamis Warnings

The earthquake and tsunami warning service distributes the government’s latest notifications and alerts when natural geological events happen. It covers all of northern Taiwan with real-time government alerts and announcements. This includes a comprehensive natural-disaster damage impact report from the local and national government readings.

Droughts, Floods, Contaminations & Disruptions

The disruption warning service distributes notifications on a broad range of issues that have the potential to affect your day-to-day life. It covers all of northern Taiwan with real-time government alerts and announcements. These announcements report on droughts, floods, water and food contaminations, disease outbreaks, cholera, solar flares, significant transport disruptions, terrorist events and any other man-made / natural disasters.

Your Warning & Alert Notifications

You are able set your warnings and alerts within your Account.

These notifications include: Nearby typhoons, severe storms, earthquakes, tsunami, droughts, floods, contaminations and other various disruptions.

Upcoming Events & Festivals

Taipei Expats provides an upcoming event calendar for those who wish to explore the many things that are happening in and around Taipei. The calendar includes the festivals that are celebrated in Taiwan throughout each year. You can find the calendar within the Expat Services menu.

You are easily able to find any type of event or festival that you are looking for through a color-defined category drop-down list.

Looking for events & activities hosted by the Taipei expat community?

*The community Events & Festivals Calendar is a different calendar to the Upcoming Festivals & Events.

The Upcoming Events & Festivals Calendar displays officially certified events that are typically hosted by the local Taipei City and New Taipei City governmental departments. It is not the Community Events & Activities Calendar.

The Community Events & Activities Calendar is a Taipei expat community driven event calendar. Community members can host their own personal events or activities, to then invite other like-minded local expat members to join.

Uploading your own events to the calendar

Taipei Expats now offer officially certified events to be hosted on to the Taipei events and festivals calendar. Your uploaded event(s) will go through a verification process, and you will receive a confirmation after the upload process is complete. If the upload is successful, you should be able to see it listed within the Upcoming Events & Festivals Calendar immediately.

Please note that all event uploads must be an officially held public event as the Taipei Events & Festivals Calendar is publicly available.

You are able to receive notifications on upcoming events that are happening in and around Taipei based on your subscription settings. This includes the option to be notified on particular types of events based on your selected profile interests.

The Upcoming Events & Festivals Calendar additionally displays all the national and observed holidays that take place each year in Taiwan. You are able to view all of these holidays for this current year, and for next year. You can find all the holiday dates and their meanings at the top of the Upcoming Events & Festivals page.

Useful Apps and Sites

Taipei Expats offer a full range of recommendable applications and websites for foreigners living, travelling and working in Taipei. These apps and sites support expats with a more comfortable day-to-day life in Taipei. All the apps and sites are carefully categorized in four comprehensive sections: Useful Tools, Taipei Transport, City Services and Taipei Entertainment.

Applications

The Taipei expat apps section gives you the ease of searching for what you want, and then to simply be able to download it to your preferred device. You are able to search through the labeled headings to find what you want quickly within each app category. 

All the apps show their operating system capabilities above their app icons. Currently, Taipei Expats only supports the applications running on Apple, Android and Windows operating systems. All the app markets default the downloads to come from the US store until you change the country of the app market within your preferences.

Websites

The Taipei expat sites is located under the apps section of each category. The sites section houses all the ideal and useful sites that will help make expat living in Taipei easier. For those that would rather use website pages, it is easy to bookmark the URL directly from the site section for easy return use. Each website link will open up a new window within your browser, so you won’t lose your place on the Taipei Expats site pages.

Uploading an App or a Site to Taipei Expats

You are able to easily upload an application or a website to the apps & sites section. You don’t have to own the upload as long as you think it is a good recommendation which other expats could benefit from. To upload an app or site to the website, simply fill out the upload form and submit.

Your uploaded application or website will go through a verification process, and you will receive a confirmation after the upload process is complete. If the upload is successful, you should be able to see it listed within the apps & sites section immediately.

Taipei Classifieds

Taipei Expats has its own classifieds which currently covers Taipei City, New Taipei City and Taoyuan City by districts.

One of the benefits of using the Taipei classifieds is that listings get shared across the ever-growing local expat community, as well as across all other social media channels. The Taipei Classifieds are accessible from the homepage, and also within the Expat Services menu.

Searching for a Listing

Anyone is freely able to search listings for jobs, apartments, items to buy, personals and even courses. However, you must be logged in to be able to contact the lister or even to place your own listing. You are able to narrow down your search by cities or their respective districts (as shown below).

Please note: The Taipei classifieds currently covers Taipei City, New Taipei City and Taoyuan City.

Searching for a Listing

Placing a Listing

Placing a listing on the Taipei classifieds is completely free and easy to do, but you must be logged in to your account.

  1. Once you are logged into your account, select the “Place Listing” button (shown in the image below).
  2. Select an ad Category from the drop-down box, and then a sub-category will appear for you to be more specific in where you want you ad to be listed.Place Listing
  3. The next page of the ad listing process requires you to fill out all the details necessary follow the advised instructions for each field. This is also the area to assign a specific location for your ad. Please ensure you read, understand and accept the Terms of Service when placing your listing.
  4. The next page requires you to upload at least one image for your ad.
    *You can upload 4 images of up to 1 MB each. Having images and a good description in your ad greatly increases the success rate of being contact about your listing.
  5. The next page allows you to preview your ad. Use this chance to check over your listing for any amendments before the final submission.
  6. Once you have submitted your ad, the uploads team will begin to process your listing. As soon as your listing has been approved, it will become visible and we will send you a confirmation of this to the email address you provided.

Contacting a Listing

Once you’ve found a particular listing that you like, view it and you will find the lister’s contact details. All the classified ads are listed on the respective listers account, so you will be able to contact them directly about their ad.

Taipei Expats is currently working on a direct Paypal service which will allow users to connect their listings to their Paypal account. Having a secured payment gateway allows users to accept payments for their ads via a PayPal account. All members are able to be notified when the payment-gateway feature becomes available by their subscription settings.

Taipei Guides & Articles

Taipei Expats is working on building a comprehensive guide to the city of Taipei. These guides offer valuable information and helpful tips for all expats living, travelling, studying or working in Taipei. You can find all these guides and articles in the Guides menu.

The Taipei Guides are clearly laid out by their defined categories and tag labels for user-friendliness. The current main categories are currently: Festivals & Events, Exploring, Eating & Drinking, Nightlife and Living.

You are able to post your own comments, ask questions and contribute to the in-post discussions for each guide and article within the bottom comment boxes. However, you must be logged in to your account in order to do.

Uploading your own Taipei Blogs & Articles

You are welcome to upload your blog(s) to the Taipei Expat guides and articles. To upload a blog to the website, simply fill out the upload form and submit. You don’t have to own the blog as long as you have the owner’s permission to upload.

Your uploaded blog(s) will go through a verification process, and you will receive a confirmation after the upload process is complete. If the upload is successful, you should be able to see it listed within the Taipei expat guides and articles immediately.

★ Please note:

  1. You can only submit one blog at a time.
  2. You must include your contact details, a title, a featured image, tags, and a category.
  3. The blog MUST be a URL link or a pdf|doc|docx format only.
  4. The maximum blog size upload limit is 5MB.
  5. Your blog MUST NOT infringe any copyright laws. This means it should be of original content and not the work or ownership of anyone else that HAS NOT provided you of any permission to publish it on taipeiexpats.com. We advise that you read the website’s terms of service on licensing to what is subjected to their content copyright laws.

Adding pictures to the Taipei gallery

You are welcome to upload your image(s) of Taipei to the gallery, simply fill out a form and submit. You are able to include a title, a caption, categories and a description for each image.

Your uploaded image(s) will go through a verification process, and you will receive a confirmation after the upload process is complete. If the upload is successful, you should be able to see it listed within the Taipei gallery immediately.
