Fantastic Italian-American Food Choices at Maya Resto Cafe

Maya Resto Cafe is a newly established Italian-American restaurant that we’ve started going to in Taipei when we’re craving Western food.

Maya Resto Cafe

Maya Resto Cafe only just opened up back in November 2020, so we were keen to visit them after learning about their decent reputation online for serving a huge selection of tasty Western food.

The Italian-American-themed restaurant is located in a nice area of the Zhongshan District.

This makes it pretty ideal for groups or last-minute dining since they’re close to Zhongshan Elementary School MRT and Yuanshan MRT (about a 10-minute walk from each station).

Maya Resto Cafe (inside)

Maya Resto Cafe looks deceivingly small from the outside, so we were surprised to find it’s massively spacious with another area of tables at the back.

We arrived around 1pm when the restaurant was fairly empty, but it soon got busier over the lunch period. Despite that though, there always seemed to be tables free.

It has a relaxing and chilled atmosphere here as the staff was very friendly, and they all seemed to be able to speak English.

They play background music of Latin cover versions on popular and recent songs in the background which helps the modern Western vibe of the restaurant.

If it wasn’t for the Christmas decorations still being up, and that most of the customers are Taiwanese, you’d think that you’re not in Taiwan.

They also have an American sports bar dedicated to the basement floor of Maya Resto Cafe, called Hollywood Sports Bar.

What we ordered

All our food and drinks came surprisingly quicker than expected – which caught us a bit off guard as we intended to take pictures of each individually.

We thought we would be waiting a while to be served since it was getting busier.

Our drinks

Our Drinks

It was a bit of a tough choice to make as they have a wide selection of delicious coffees and teas, but we couldn’t find any set deals. – In the end, we ordered these two:

1. Matcha Coffee Latte ($130)

2. Caramel Macchiato ($140)

The Caramel Macchiato, the brown glass, tasted enjoyably sweet without the need to water down to make it easier to drink. The Matcha Coffee Latte, the green glass, on the other hand, had a much lighter, subtle taste of coffee.

The drinks arrived with the cream risen over the top when they arrived, however, it sank in a bit before we took this shot.

Classic Grilled Burger

Classic Grilled Burger ($280)

We went for their classic American burger which is a bacon cheeseburger with thick and juicy beef – we relished every bite.

Even though the beef was pretty thick and meaty, we didn’t feel the burger was all that greasy since the tomatoes, onion, and vegetables gave each bite a fresh taste.

Classic Grilled Burger (focused)

The French fries come with it as a side at no extra charge, making it a perfect combo as they’re plentiful, crispy, and not too salty. This beast of a handful, being at the fair price of just $280 which did not disappoint!

Shrimp Fettuccine

Shrimp Fettuccine ($320)

The Shrimp Fettuccine with Pesto Sauce isn’t cheap, but it’s one of my old favorites back home at similar Italian-American-themed restaurants, so I was eager to try this dish here in Taiwan.

The fettuccine pasta was soft, making it super easy to swivel the pasta on the spoon using a fork. We loved how the pesto sauce gave the dish a rich and creamy taste.

Shrimp Fettuccine (focused)

The shrimp were fairly big portions, and the meat was tender and fresh. This serving also comes decorated with shrimp to beautifully cover this dish.

It wasn’t much of a pain to deshell them. If needed, there are spare dishes and tissues available nearby the counter, next to the sauces and extra cutlery.

The Menu

Check out their menu below:

It’s worth noting that their prices may change from what you see online. Therefore, we suggest checking the latest prices in Maya Resto Cafe before ordering. There is also a service fee of 10% added to the bill at the end.

Worth visiting?

Yes, it’s extremely worth it – the food is fantastic, and there is a massive choice.

We felt so full and satisfied that we had no room to try their mouthwatering desserts. Luckily, they’re easy to get to, so we’ve made plans to go back to try other delicious options on the menu (like the pork BBQ ribs and pizza).

Will we go back?

We’d like to go back is to check out their sports bar in the basement. It was closed when we visited as it opens up in the evenings.
